Help & support

How can we help?

Answers to what people ask most. Settings is the slider button at the top right of the Packs screen, and How Holoroll works in Settings plays the walkthrough again.

Packs

How do packs and the timer work?

A new pack arrives every six hours. Up to two can wait for you (five with Holoroll Collector), so the clock keeps running while you're away. The Packs screen shows how long until the next one.

Each pack holds five cards from one set. The last card is always Uncommon or better. Packs can't be bought, and nothing makes them come faster.

After your first pack, Holoroll asks whether it may tell you when a pack is ready. You can change that any time in the Settings app under Notifications → Holoroll.

What's an anniversary pack?

If you took a trip on today's date in an earlier year, Holoroll gives you a free pack from that trip, with a Rare or better as the last card. There's one at most each day, and it waits only for that day. If that trip's set hasn't come out yet, opening its anniversary pack brings it out early.

Sets

Why hasn't one of my sets come out yet?

Your back catalog arrives a few sets at a time, so there's always something new to open. Three sets come out when you start (your most recent trips first), then two more every week.

Sets made from new photos go to the front of the line: a trip that ends after you started playing, or a new volume of Favorites, Golden Hour, Firsts or Pets comes out with the next weekly drop. Each week's This Week, Years Ago and sets you make from an album come out right away. With a big library, some older sets may not come out until a later season.

A trip you're still on isn't printed yet, since a printed set never changes. It's printed once you take a photo back home, or two days after its last photo, and then joins the next drop.

Why isn't a photo in any set?

A few reasons a photo might not be on a card:

  • Its set hasn't come out yet. See the answer above.
  • It isn't the kind of photo Holoroll uses. Screenshots, very small images and utility shots (receipts, documents, whiteboards) are left out, and so are videos. Stills and Live Photos make cards.
  • The set was already full. A set holds up to 20 cards, so a big trip keeps its best photos.
  • It looks like another card. Holoroll makes one card per moment: from a run of near-identical shots, only the best one goes in the set.
  • The set was printed before you took it. A printed set never changes. New photos go into new sets: a new trip, or the next volume of Favorites, Golden Hour or Firsts once 12 new photos qualify.
  • It has no location. Trips and Firsts need to know where a photo was taken. A trip is six or more photos taken more than 80 km from home, with no gap longer than two days.
  • You hid it. Photos marked Never show, and photos in the Hidden album in the Photos app, are left out.
  • Holoroll can't see it. See “Holoroll only sees some of my photos” below.
Can I make a set from an album?

Yes. In the Binder, tap Make a set from an album and pick one, and Holoroll prints it as a set. You can have one album set at a time for free; removing it frees the slot. Holoroll Collector lets you make sets from any number of albums.

How do I get a card I'm missing?

Keep opening packs, or make it with dust. Every duplicate you pull gives dust: 5 for a Common, 10 for an Uncommon, 25 for a Rare and 50 for a Chase, twice that when the duplicate is Prism. Tap a missing card in a set to make it: 40 dust for a Common, 80 for an Uncommon, 200 for a Rare and 400 for a Chase.

Cards

How do rarity and foil work?

Rarity is decided when a set is printed and never changes. Your best photo in each set is the Chase card, about one in seven cards are Rare, and a first visit to a place is always Rare or better.

Foil goes Plain, Gloss, Holo, Prism. A card starts from what's special about its photo (a golden hour, a favorite, a first visit, the first photo in a new country) and moves up one step when you pull it for the 2nd, 4th and 7th time. Chase cards, and any card on its 10th pull, are Full Art: the subject lifts out of the photo.

How do I hide a photo, and get it back?

Tap Never show this photo on a card, or the eye button right after you flip it in a pack. You can hide just that photo or every photo from that day. Hidden photos leave packs, sets, the Atlas, the widget, recaps and clips, and any pack art that showed them is made again.

To bring one back, open Settings → Never show. Holoroll only hides photos from itself: they stay in your library. Photos in the Hidden album in the Photos app never reach Holoroll at all.

How do I send a card to someone?

Open a card, tap the share button, then Send as a Card. Holoroll makes a .holocard file to send by Messages, AirDrop or Files. Each card you send uses up one duplicate, and you keep the card. The first time, Holoroll asks for the name to send cards with.

When your friend opens the file in Holoroll, the card is revealed and filed under Received in their Binder. If they took a photo of the same moment, it slides in beside yours and they get 25 dust. The file carries the photo, its title, place name, foil and rarity, and your name, but never its GPS coordinates.

How do I share a pack opening as a video?

After you open a pack, tap Share this opening. Holoroll makes a 10-second vertical video of it, sounds included, ready to post or send. You can also share any single card as a short foil video from the card's share button.

Seasons and stamps

What are seasons?

Everyone plays the same season at the same time. Each season has its own name, colors, foil, pack crimp and sounds. Season 1, Afterglow, runs from November 7, 2026 to February 1, 2027. Season 2, Riptide, starts February 1, and from then on each season lasts 90 days.

In a season's last week and the next season's first three weeks, a recap waits on the Packs screen: your packs, the oldest photos you rediscovered, your pull of the season and more. Past recaps stay in the Binder.

What do the stamps on a card mean?

A card is stamped with the season you first pulled it in. That first stamp is its edition, so cards first pulled in Season 1 are first editions. Pull the same card again in a later season and it collects that season's stamp too; you still have one card, with every stamp in a row.

With more than one stamp, choose which season's foil the card wears under Look on the card.

Your iPhone

I got a new iPhone. How do I keep my collection?

Holoroll keeps a copy of your collection in your own iCloud. Sign in to the same Apple Account on your new iPhone, install Holoroll, and open it: it picks up your collection before anything else. It backs up after each pack, when you leave the app, and when you tap Back up now in Settings.

Your cards point at photos in your library, so your new iPhone needs the same photos. With iCloud Photos turned on, they match up on their own. Cards whose photos aren't on the new iPhone yet are kept, counted under Photos not on this iPhone in Settings, and fill in as the photos arrive.

Holoroll only sees some of my photos.

You probably gave Holoroll access to selected photos only. To use your whole library, open the Settings app, go to Apps → Holoroll → Photos, and choose Full Access. Then open Holoroll again; Rescan library in Settings looks again right away.

There's no sound.

Holoroll's sounds follow your iPhone's ring/silent switch, so they're quiet when the phone is on silent. They can also be turned off with Sound effects in Settings.

How do I add the widget?

Touch and hold your Home Screen or Lock Screen, tap Edit, then add a widget and choose Holoroll. There are small and medium Home Screen widgets and a Lock Screen widget.

Purchases

What do I get with Holoroll Collector?

Holoroll Collector is a one-time $4.99 purchase. Five packs can wait for you instead of two, you can make sets from any album, and you get three card backs, three app icons, three binder themes and three video styles. It doesn't make packs come faster or bring sets out sooner, and packs are never sold.

A season collection ($0.99) adds that season's card back and binder theme. It's sold only while its season runs.

How do I restore my purchases?

Open Settings → Holoroll Collector and tap Restore Purchases at the bottom, signed in to the Apple Account you bought with.

Does Holoroll Collector work with Family Sharing?

Yes. When Family Sharing is set up and purchase sharing is on, everyone in the family gets Holoroll Collector. If it doesn't show up for a family member, have them tap Restore Purchases.

How do I get a refund?

Apple handles payments and refunds. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Privacy

Does Holoroll upload my photos?

No. Your photos are read and scored on your iPhone and never uploaded. There's no account and no tracking. The privacy policy lists everything that leaves your iPhone, and how to delete Holoroll's copy from iCloud.
